4 Ways to Ward Off Breast Cancer

An estimated 40 percent of breast cancers could be prevented each year if all women took these steps, according to a newly updated report from the American Institute for Cancer Research:

1. Keep your body weight down. Fat cells produce excess estrogen, which can fuel the growth of some cancers.

2. Get moving for at least 30 minutes every day. Besides helping you maintain a healthy weight, it’ll boost your immune system and keep hormone levels balanced.

3. Have one alcoholic drink a day, max. Abstaining is even better. Alcohol may work with other chemicals in your body to cause more damage to cells.

4. If you have a baby, try to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months. It could reduce your risk by almost 60 percent.
